When it comes to deli, I don’t distinguish much between lunch and dinner. A sandwich of corned-beef or dark-meat turkey on rye, stuffed cabbage, a bowl of egg barley — it doesn’t matter to me the time of day. But before noon I really prefer something I can call breakfast, and so when I slid into a booth at Deli King in New Hyde Park on Sunday morning, I had to stretch myself.
“Salami omelet” is what the menu called it. Slices of salami had been heated to pliability in a small pan, and then inundated with beaten eggs. The whole thing was left to coalesce into a firm, meaty disk, a very satisfying breakfast made more so by the accompanying french fries. My pal had mushroom-onion omelet, equally good if lacking in saturated fat.
Deli King is at 1570 Union Tpke. New Hyde Park, 516-437-8420.
