I was in Glen Cove recently and was struck by a powerful urge for some tacos. Over the years, the town has evolved from an Italian enclave into an international community with many residents from Central and South America. How poetic, then, that a quick Google search (“Glen Cove” and tacos) turned up Dominik Pizza on Glen Street.

The neat little pizzeria has a full menu of pizza, heros, calzones and pastas, but everyone seated at the 10 or so tables was concentrating on Mexican specialties.

I ordered two tacos, lengua (tongue) and campechanos (a mixture of meats); my friend got the al pastor (grilled pork) and chorizo (spicy sausage). The tortillas were not handmade, but they were expertly filled with flavorful meat, fresh cilantro and chopped onion; served with lime and a kicky green sauce. (Tacos range from $1.75 to $2.)

Consider me hooked on Dominik’s. I’ll be returning soon for more tacos and a much more in-depth investigation of the tortas, tostadas, tamales, enchiladas, chilaquiles and flautas.

Dominik Pizza is at 65 12 Glen St., Glen Cove, 516-674-4796, dominikpizza.com
