There’s been a changing of the guard at Jeff’s Seafood & Galley in East Northport, where Chris Fusaro replaces William "Billy Bob" McLellan as head chef.
At dinner, recently, I found Fusaro’s blackened flounder spicy and moist, his grilled salmon with miso teriyaki glaze expertly cooked, served with roasted potatoes and carrots. Where he fell short, though, was with a wimpy Manhattan clam chowder that bore no relation to McLellan’s hearty brew made with ground clams.
Fortunately, you can find McLellan’s chowder (and an entire line of soups) at Jeff’s Seafood of Halesite, a retail fish store and takeout shop, where McLellan is cooking.
Talking with the colorful chef, I learned of an exciting new sit-down restaurant (where he will be behind the stove) in the works for this spring in Bayville. Updates to follow.
