My first taste of Chef Brian Shuren’s cooking at Bistro 25 in Sayville left me eager to return for more.
Loved the gratis warm bread sticks, which had a surprisingly spicy kick. And was really wowed by an appetizer of braised pork belly, two meaty squares, each topped with a layer of crackling-crisp fat, served over slightly (but not too) sweet corn pudding. ($8) An entee of juicy pork tenderloin au poivre came with a lovely root vegetable puree. Dessert was carrot cake bread pudding with cream cheese ice cream. Comfort food, no doubt.
