Over the weekend I stopped for a drink at East Hampton Grill, the hopping new restaurant that has taken over where Della Femina left off. At the bar, I ordered the deviled eggs and two biscuits.
The eggs, two of them, cost $8, which seemed par for the course. But two delicious, buttery, flaky, rosemary-flecked, fist-sized biscuits cost $1. A dollar for two biscuits. The last time I got a toasted bialy at a deli it cost more than a dollar. I’ve seen stale “soft” pretzels selling on the streets of Manhattan for $2. Did I mention how delicious these biscuits were? They came with local honey and soft butter, but I just ate them neat. The eggs were good, too.
