The Puerto Rican-style hand-held fried pies at the new Empanadaville bring Caribbean flair to Mastic Beach, and add to the small — but growing — number of Puerto Rican eateries on Long Island. The tiny takeout place is owned by engaged couple Jessica Rodriguez and Justin Friedman.

Rodriguez, who had an online bakery business, said she makes almost everything from scratch, including the cheesecake, flan and sauces. Her mom, who was born in Puerto Rico, comes in regularly to make the sofrito used in the empanada fillings.

While the basic empanadas reflect Puerto Rican ways, others have an international twist or two. At $2.85 each, they come in such varieties as classic beef, chicken cordon bleu, shrimp and chorizo, broccoli and cheese and even shepherd’s pie. You can also get a roasted chicken ($4.50 quarter; $6.50 half) and combination plates as well as family and party packs.

In warm weather, there’s some outdoor seating at picnic tables, but the place has no table seating inside.

Empanadaville is at 374 Neighborhood Rd., Mastic Beach, 631-399-3526.
