Grabbing a meal on the run usually means gobbling down fare that's high in both fat and calories. Truth is, not everyone wants to eat that way.
And that, precisely, is the concept underlying Energy Kitchen, a New York City chain that recently opened a branch in Syosset. “Fast food doesn't have to be fat food“ is the motto of the place, which provides nutritional information for every dish. Here, no one item comes in at over 500 calories. Food is made to order and either baked, grilled or steamed, never fried.
A glance at the menu reveals a Tex-Mex turkey burger (349 calories, $6.49), a “supreme sirloin” burger topped with low-fat American cheese (463 calories, $6.49), a Thai chicken wrap (414 calories, $6.49) and a seared tuna salad (276 calories, $9.99). Smoothies are made with low fat-yogurt.
Energy Kitchen is at 170 Jericho Tpke., Syosset, 516-864-0400,
