What draws me back to Black Forest Brew Haus in Farmingdale, now and again, is its proximity to Newsday headquarters. As for the food: a recent lunch hasn’t changed my long-standing view: Decent. Mostly.
A friend’s turkey sandwich was on the dry side, the accompanying fries, the previously frozen pre-seasoned sort. From a “light” menu, I ordered a turkey burger, which turned out to be appealingly moist and smoky, served on a ciabatta roll and topped with balsamic onions. What I didn’t like were the accompanying grilled vegetables, which tasted, disconcertingly, like Sterno.
The restaurant, which offers numerous German specialties, also serves a Sunday buffet brunch. And on Thursday, July 14, the place will stage a “psychics and sangria” dinner that includes, at $45 a person, a three-course dinner, sangria plus a reading with a psychic (who probably already knows whether you'll be there). Call for reservations.
