Launching today, Feed Me TV is a new item on Newsday’s menu: a digital TV series that takes you inside Long Island’s vital food scene. Feed Me TV streams on Roku TV and Apple TV and is viewable on Newsday’s website and mobile app. Watch the six episodes at your leisure, or binge-watch them all in one bite; six more are to follow in the fall.
Each 15-minute episode centers around a cool chef, a hot trend, a happening town, a delicious destination. Our host is Pervaiz Shallwani, Newsday food writer and critic, a trained chef with a world-class appetite.
Among the stories in the summer series are a visit to BBD’s in Rocky Point, where Ralph Perrazzo grinds his own beef and uses three different cooking methods to create the ultimate burger. Shallwani hitches a ride on a Mattituck fishing boat, and follows the haul first to Southold Fish Market and then to its ultimate destination, 18 Bay restaurant on Shelter Island, where chef Adam Kopels turns it into an elegant crudo. Babylon, the South Shore village that never sleeps, gets the Feed Me TV treatment as Shallwani eats and drinks his way around Deer Park Avenue.
Newsday co-publisher Debby Krenek said, “This show is at the intersection of two sweet spots for us — food and video. Our audience is highly engaged in our restaurant coverage, and they are also telling us that they want more video.”
Users of the digital media players Roku TV and Apple TV (and, soon, Google Chromecast and Amazon Fire TV) now can experience Newsday’s award-winning videos on a bigger screen via the Newsday channel.
“This is a growing frontier for news organizations, and we are at the forefront,” Krenek said. “There are so many great food stories to tell on Long Island. Video is a great way to tell them.”
