Amagansett Food Institute to host fundraiser at Southampton Historical Museum

At the Southampton fundraiser “Lost Foods, New Foods,” the Amagansett Food Institute is showcasing the bounty and ingenuity of Long Island’s East End. The elegant grounds of the Southampton Historical Museum will be the setting for a tasting of local foods and wines on Thursday, Aug. 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Among the local producers offering samples of their wares: Carissa’s Breads (made with local wheat in Amagansett), Mecox Bay Dairy (cheese made in Bridgehampton), Joe and Liza’s Ice Cream (made in Sag Harbor) and Gula Gula Empanadas (made in Mattituck).

The Amagansett Food Institute is a nonprofit organization that promotes the farmers, fishermen, vintners and other producers on Long Island’s East End. Among its programs are Farm to Pantry, in partnership with Long Island Cares, which supplies food pantries with surplus local produce; South Fork Kitchens, a food business incubator at the Southampton Campus of Stony Brook University; and CRAFT (East End Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training) which helps to train farm apprentices. The event benefits both the institute and the museum.

Tickets are $150 at the door. Southampton Historical Museum is at 17 Meeting House Lane, Southampton.
