The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

Elvis may have left the building, but he — OK, a reasonable facsimile — plans on being in Merrick next Thursday evening. Elvis impersonator Steve Mitchell will be performing at Nicholas James Bistro starting at 8 p.m. Before the show, at 6:30 p.m., there'll be a three- course prix-fixe dinner.

Chef Kevin Liebov's menu lists, among appetizer, a stuffed portobello mushroom and a classic Caesar salad, followed by a main course of, say, St. Peters fish oreganata or grilled pineapple-soy marinated skirt steak. Dessert options include chocolate mousse cake and the restaurant's "famous" bread pudding. (No fried peanut butter and banana sandwich?)

The cost of both dinner and show is $35 a person, plus tax and gratuity. That's a lot cheaper than a night in Vegas. To quote the King: "Thank you very much."
