Kevin Connelly of Flying Belgian Brewery in Farmingdale is branching out to Great South Bay Brewery in Bay Shore, where he has just started brewing beers in house and will be on tap in the tasting room with the dozen or so from Rick Sobotka, brewmaster of Great South Bay Brewing.

Currently Flying Belgian brews on and off site at Lithology Brewing Co. in Farmingdale, where one of Connelly’s brews is served in addition to the Lithology beers.

Connelly, who detoured from his career as an engineer a couple of years ago to become a brewer, is carving a reputation making beers like Illegally Blonde, a Belgian-style brew that’s bold and crisp. He’s also making Salvation a la mode, a honey and citrus beer with similar alcohol content. Both sell for around $7 or $8.

The tasting room at Great South Bay Brewery is open from 3 to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.
