The second location of a health-centric eatery has opened in East Meadow.

Good Eats Bistro opened on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow with 68 seats and a menu almost identical to its parent restaurant, Good Eats Café in Amityville: omelettes, wraps, burgers, flatbreads, salads, zoodles and Meditteranean-influenced dishes such as herbed ricotta bruschetta and penne with turkey Bolognese.

The restaurants are co-owned by Paul Riedel and John Munson, who is also the executive chef. In Amityville, Riedel originally ran a satellite location of a chain of eateries geared toward fitness enthusiasts. After his customers claimed they were gaining weight eating his food, Riedel said, he hired a registered dietitian and partnered with Munson to devise a new restaurant concept based on minimizing sodium and fat, as well as using healthy fats, whole grains and local ingredients.

“We wanted to create delicious food, and take out those things you don’t need without sacrificing flavor,” said Munson, who relies on herbs and stocks for seasoning, as well as lean proteins and olive oil in place of butter.

A growing arm of the business is the Good EATS Meal Program, which offers healthy meals prepared daily and available for pick up or delivery.

As of Monday, June 19, Good Eats Bistro will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
