It was from his Italian-born grandmother, Grace, and his mother, Rose, that restaurateur Richard Morrison first  received a culinary education. “They taught me my love of food,“ said Morrison, who parlayed lottery winnings into a restaurant honoring his two mentors.

The new water-view Port Jefferson spot combines family recipes with a menu co-written by executive chef Vincent Michaels, who also owns J. Michaels Tuscan Steakhouse in Northport. Michaels characterized the overall repertoire as “seafood Continental New World.” Included are such dishes as Grandma Rose’s mini veal meatballs ($11), Richie’s New Orleans crab sauce with colossal shrimp ($30) and Papa’s linguine with white clam sauce ($24). Also, a 12-ounce grilled filet mignon ($42) and a 22-ounce Porterhouse veal chop ($40).

Two of Morrison’s daughters, Dawn and Roseann, manage the place. Photos of Morrison's mother and grandmother hang in the stairwell.

Graceful Rose is at 154 W. Broadway, Port Jefferson,  631-509-1792.
