Long Island corn has hit the farm stands on the North Fork, the earliest crop in memory.
Hodun’s farm stand on Route 25 in Calverton, Anderson’s on Route 58 in Riverhead and Rottkamp’s in Baiting Hollow have been picking corn since yesterday. Hodun’s is selling theirs for 50 cents an ear.
Some other stands, including Windy Acres in Calverton, say they will have corn earlier than the usual Fourth of July date. As with the early strawberry crop, the spring rains seem to have hastened the ears to their early debut.
