Italian restaurant Salumeria Pomodoro in Huntington gets new chef, menu

A year after it opened in Huntington, Salumeria Pomodoro is taking it up a notch with a new chef and contemporary Italian menu. Paul Miranda earned 2 1⁄2 stars for his work at Huntington’s True North and, since that gastropub closed earlier this year, he has moved three blocks north to take over the Gerard Street kitchen.

Miranda’s menu pays homage to the restaurant’s namesake salumi (Italian cured meats, here called “charcuterie”) with boards of Prosciutto di Parma, sopressata and a few Italian cheeses. Appetizers ($8 to $15) include Calabrian chicken wings, grilled Caesar salad, and polenta with escarole and pancetta. Among pastas ($19 to $23), are linguine with clams, porcini-stuffed tortelloni with pea puree, and malfadine Bolognese. Mains ($24 to $32) include lamb T-bones with white beans, marcona almonds and pomegranate-Rioja sauce; pan-seared striped bass “acqua pazza” with sauteed spinach and roasted chicken diavolo with broccoli rabe and rosemary-lemon potatoes.

Salumeria Pomodoro is owned by Reststar Hospitality Group, which also operates Bistro Cassis (around the corner in Huntington), Brasserie Cassis in Plainview and La P’tite Framboise in Port Washington, along with restaurants in Manhattan. In 2015, Reststar opened a Salumeria Pomodoro in Roslyn. It received 1 1⁄2 stars from Newsday, but closed shortly after the Huntington offshoot opened in March.
