Guy Reuge of Mirabelle in Stony Brook has been named a James Beard Foundation Award semifinalist for best chef in the northeast.

It’s the fourth time that Reuge has been a semifinalist. No Long Island chef has ever won the award.

The late Gerry Hayden of The North Fork Table & Inn in Southold was a finalist three times and semifinalist twice.

Five finalists for the award will be announced next month. Voting for the JBF Awards are an independent panel of more than 600 critics, editors covering food and wine, and previous winners.

Reuge has earned a four-star rating in Newsday for decades. The restaurant originally was in St. James and the cuisine was French. Now, there’s a French accent to the primarily New American menu. He is also the executive chef at the new 3-star Sandbar in Cold Spring Harbor.

Mirabelle is in the Three Village Inn, at 150 Main St., in Stony Brook; 631-751-0555, lessings.com
