The inventor of the Miracle Mop is giving her Huntington restaurant a clean sweep.
Joy Mangano, whose career as an HSN pitchwoman was dramatized in the 2015 Jennifer Lawrence movie “Joy,” has closed the 7-year-old Porto Vivo on Gerard Street and is poised to relaunch it as Jema, described on its website as “a unique market-driven restaurant featuring signature, globally inspired dishes.”
Jema’s chef, Franco Sampogna, was born in Brazil and moved to France at age 17 to pursue a culinary career. In Paris he worked at two three-Michelin-star restaurants, Guy Savoy and, most recently, Alain Ducasse in the Hôtel Plaza Athénée.
Porto Vivo opened in 2009 and received two stars from Newsday’s Peter M. Gianotti. In 2011, chef Steven Lecchi was succeeded by Joseph Balbo.
The new menu for Jema and the opening date have not yet been set.
