KB's Burger Shack in Patchogue has reinvented itself.
Owner Brian Kearns closed the business a few weeks ago, renovated the interior, rolled out a new menu and re-christened the business Blue Goose Craft Kitchen & Cocktails. "It's brighter and nicer," said Kearns, with new floors, tables and lighting, as well as a revamped menu created by chef Chris Zullo, the former executive chef at both Brewology locations.
The 110-year-old building that houses Blue Goose has a long history as an eatery and hangout: It first opened in 1934 as John's Bar & Grill, and received one of the first liquor licenses issued in Suffolk County. The bar is still a centerpiece inside Blue Goose, with plenty of seats, 11 taps (one of them pouring pinot grigio) and a new zinc bartop.
Tavern classics like a bacon-topped cheeseburger, baked clams and mac-and-cheese still dot the menu, but are joined by more eclectic dishes such as lettuce wraps, pot stickers, a changing daily flatbread, wild mushroom gnocchi and a signature burger topped with foie gras, Stilton cheese and onion jam — as well as a kale-quinoa burger made in house. An arugula salad topped with crumbled pecans, goat cheese and gooseberries is one of four salads on the menu.
Sunday brunch brings the usual suspects (buttermilk pancakes, steak and eggs and omelets) as well as biscuits and gravy, avocado toast points and an egg-topped breakfast burger. Lunch and dinner appetizers cost between $8 and $18, and main courses $12 to $29 (for steak three ways). Brunch dishes cost between $8 and $19.
