It’s a good day for New York farmers and producers. Gov. Cuomo announced Friday that more than 100 restaurants in New York State have taken the “Pride of NY Pledge” to use “the bountiful agricultural products available in New York State.”
Every restaurant participating in the initiative has committed to:
-- Increase by 10 percent or more the sourcing of New York State-grown and -made products and ingredients.
-- Feature, highlight and increase by 10 percent wines, beers, spirits, ciders and other locally produced beverages.
-- Introduce new New York-themed dishes made with locally sourced and seasonal products
-- Consistently communicate their commitment with suppliers, peers and the public to encourage more support of New York State food and beverages
-- Educate staff and maintain knowledge of New York State’s locally grown and made products
The Long Island restaurants participating in the program are Ayhan’s Shish-Kebab Mediterranean Restaurants, Besito in Roslyn, Jack Halyards in Oyster Bay, Jewel Restaurant in Melville, Mirabelle in Stony Brook, Monsoon in Babylon, Roots Bistro Gourmand in West Islip and West East Bistro in Hicksville.
Of course, many more Long Island restaurants make abundant use of local products. To name just a few: Market Bistro in Jericho, Relish in Kings Park, The Lake House in Bay Shore, Plaza Café in Southampton, Nick & Toni’s in East Hampton, North Fork Table and Inn in Southold and 18 Bay in Shelter Island.
