Meane DiStefano had worked in enough restaurants to know she did not want to “get into that whole nighttime thing” with late hours and all the complications that a bar brings. So when she opened her own place, she decided to serve only breakfast and lunch. MéLore (the name is a stylized elision of her first and middle names) debuted this summer in what used to be Cheffy’s Corner Cuisine.
The cafe has a dainty vibe and a menu to match. For breakfast, in addition to a full roster of eggs, pancakes and French toast, there is also a parfait with Greek yogurt, honey and fresh berries ($6.50); eggs with asparagus and spinach ($8); and a sandwich of egg whites, turkey and avocado on an oversized English muffin ($7).
Vegetable-based lunch items include a grilled romaine wedge with tomatoes and blue cheese ($8), watermelon and feta salad with balsamic dressing ($8.50) and pan-roasted Brussels sprouts with bacon and raisins. Among sandwiches: BLT with romaine served on a fresh ciabatta roll ($7.95), roast beef au jus on a kaiser roll ($8.50) and a turkey-cucumber wrap with Swiss, avocado and dill Greek yogurt ($8). Fries ($3) are hand cut, coleslaw and potato salad are homemade.
MéLore’s hours are Monday to Saturday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
