Doughnut aficionados, take note: Monday is the opening of Grindstone Coffee and Donuts in Sag Harbor, selling brioche-style variations such as honey and vanilla bean glaze, blueberry lemon and creme brulee.
Doughnuts are made with a natural starter in a 48-hour fermentation process, care of owner/baker Kyle Shanahan, stepson of “The Chew” chef and Clevelander Michael Symon. Symon will be on premise handing out doughnuts Monday.
Symon had a hand in choosing the San Francisco-based Four Barrel Coffee as the house brand, a coffee-snob favorite for pronounced flavors and single origin, fair trade beans.
Glazed doughnuts costs $2.75 each, while specialty versions run $3. About eight variations will be available a day.
Grindstone will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for now, with extended hours as the season progresses. A South Fork resident for several years, Shanahan says his shop will be open year-round.
