The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

When the Olympics were held in Turin or London, hosting a theme party was easy. Now that the games are in Sochi, Russia, how do you best go beyond the blini and borscht?

Maybe spaghetti alla Putin-esca.

Just add a shot of vodka to the quick, sauce-in-progress. Some of the flavor may infiltrate the tomatoes faster than a rogue agent. Be sure to repress any other efforts to change the dish. And have someone secretly video the moment when you add olives, garlic and anchovies.

Or make some meaty dumplings, a version of pirozhki, and serve them alongside cabbage soup. They'll be welcome since it has been colder in Cold Spring Harbor than in Sochi. A side of Russian potato salad, with mayo, pickles, chopped egg and more, may compete, too.

And don't forget a cocktail. The classic Black Russian adds a coffee liqueur to vodka. Figure an ounce and a half of vodka and three-quarters of an ounce of Kahlua. If you want a White Russian, add some milk or cream, and a DVD of "Doctor Zhivago."

It will be more fun next time in Rio.
