Port Washington, a dining-out hub, adds a Peruvian-Japanese spot with an impressive pedigree.

Nikkei of Peru arrives via Asa and Lina Jong, who earned three stars in Newsday for their short-lived ASA Peruvian Tapas & Sushi in Huntington. Earlier, Asa Jong wielded his sushi blade for a decade in the Nobu empire in Manhattan.

Their new spot moves into the harborview address recently occupied by Groppelo’s and Sisina.

Nikkei of Peru follows the recent Port Washington opening of Fish on Main, an upscale American seafood grill and the successor to Ayhan’s Fish Kebab. It has its own sushi bar. Other new Port Washington sushi competitors are the lauded Hana opposite the train station, and Yamaguchi, which reopened recently on Main Street after a fire.

The Jongs shut their Huntington restaurant because of a landlord dispute, they said. Asa, who heads the kitchen at Nikkei of Peru, was the master sushi chef at Nobu 57 in Manhattan for 10 years.

Lina, who runs the dining room, was a server at both Nobu and Nobu Next Door, both in Manhattan, during the same time. The Jongs are Peruvians of Japanese descent, and their new venture will feature Nikkei, the Japanese-Peruvian fusion cuisine that has long been popular in Peru.

Combining Japanese culinary techniques with Peruvian ingredients and vice versa, Jong prepares ceviche with Japanese style, sprinkling thinly sliced fluke with miso flakes, garlic chips, and yuzu ($15). His Nikkei sashimi tacos add tuna, salmon, and yellowtail to tiny taco shells with tomatillo salsa ($12). Wagyu beef ishiyaki is cooked on a hot stone and served with chimichurri (market price).

For diners who want to experience the chef’s Nobu-honed skills, there is also plenty of straight-up sushi and sashimi. Specialty rolls include the Kiss of Fire, a combination of crunchy spicy yellowtail, jalapeño, tuna, salmon, and fish egg; and the Americana Roll is made with shrimp tempura, asparagus, and avocado. A lunch menu features dishes such as Arroz con Pollo ($13), Pisco Salmon ($13), and Barbecued Eel over Rice ($14), all served with miso soup and salad.
