Inspired by the seafood bounty of coastal Guyana, Red Snapper Seafood Kitchen has opened in Elmont, with generous portions served in a super-casual setting. The 14-seat restaurant places equal emphasis on eat-in and takeout for now.
His home country wedged between Venezuela, Suriname and Brazil, Guyanese native Sylvester Gbewonyo Jr. and his business partner Indika Amerasinghe opened the place three weeks ago.
“We wanted to open a restaurant that offers a fresh, healthy alternative than some of what’s out there,” said Gbewonyo. He’s been a Long Island resident for more than 20 years.
Among entrees the restaurant dishes up are fried and grilled porgie, shrimp, kingfish, snapper and scallops, grilled or steamed mussels as well as grilled lobster tails, snow crabs and clams.
Entrees come with a choice of a side and run from $9.99 to $14.99, while specials come with mussels, sausage and two seafood items, corn and potato for $20 to $30.
Red Snapper Seafood Kitchen is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Sunday hours are from noon to 9 p.m.
