I am fast becoming addicted to this jujeh kebab at Ravagh Persian Grill; last night was the second time in two weeks I've had it for dinner. It’s a skewer of bone-in guinea hen chunks marinated in saffron and lemon and then grilled and served with char-grilled onion and tomato. It comes with regular basmati rice, but last night I ordered it with a "special" rice, punctuated with sweet and sour cherries. It was out of this world.
I had jujeh kebab on my mind because last week I sampled another one, far inferior, at Betty’s, a new Persian restaurant in Great Neck (451 Middle Neck Rd., 516-487-3300). Betty’s gratis dips (especially the hummus) were delicious, the Shirazi salad, refreshing. But the jujeh kebab had an off-taste and the rice was mushy.
