The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

Howdy pardner and hola campadre; Armadillo Grille in Babylon has spawned a new Tex-Mex joint in Sayville.

The eatery is in the newly remodeled building that used to house Taste and, before that, Smokehouse Grill. These days, it's wearing a log cabin-style facade - so very Ralph Lauren.

I pop inside to have a look and take note of a working fireplace in the dining room. Always a plus in cold weather. Checking out the menu, I see a section called “wings, wings wings” (everything from Buffalo style to General Tso’s). There's a bundle of burritos, some grilled items (meatloaf, shrimp), burgers, salads and, yadda yadda yadda, all the usual suspects.

Except for one not-so-usual category called  the "OK Corral," which lists healthy (i.e., low-calorie) dishes. There's salmon grilled without butter or oil as well as something called the “clear conscience" quesadilla: a whole wheat tortilla stuffed with low-fat cheese, grilled chicken or steak, grilled vegetables, house-made salsa and jarred fat-free ranch dressing.

Armadillo Grille is at 296 W. Main St., Sayville, 631-563-4227, armadillogrille.com
