Soups for a blustery weekend

Judging from the weather forecast for this weekend, spring isn’t quite here yet. Tomorrow promises to be chilly, Sunday chilly and damp.

So, maybe a bowl of soup is in order? Here are three suggestions:

The aptly named “well being” soup at Yummy Sushi (95 W. Jericho Tpke., Huntington Station, 631-673-8888) is a soulful rice porridge filled with fresh vegetables. The occasional crunch of pine nut makes it all the more invigorating.

The pasta e fagioli at Torcello's (1932 Jericho Tpke., East Northport, 631-499-8792) is a  thick, rich savory prosciutto-enriched zuppa of white beans, vegetables and macaroni. Sprinkled with freshly grated Parmesan, it makes for a supremely gratifying repast.

Chicken soup, anyone? The version at Deli on Rye (1008 Willis Ave., Albertson, 516-621-2471) comes close to bubbie’s own. The broth shimmers golden-yellow and tastes deeply of simmered chicken, dill and fresh vegetables; floating on top are slightly firm pieces of carrot, al dente noodles (lukshen) and an airy, flavorsome matzo ball.

Of course, the forecasts may be all wrong, in which case, you'll want to hit a few ice cream stands.
