Thai restaurant Siam Lotus closes in Bay Shore

The owners behind one of Long Island’s favorite Thai restaurants have decided to retire after 25 years.

Siam Lotus, a Bay Shore mainstay that grew to be a dependable stop for classic Thai fare and a top spot on Newsday’s best Thai food list, closed last week, having served its last bowl of beautifully layered shrimp hot and sour soup.

Husband wife team Danny and Jeannie Poom closed shop after service Wednesday. Their daughter, Yamsie Poom told Newsday that her parents “decided to retire after a successful twenty-five year run.”

A message on the restaurant’s answering thanks diners for their support: “We are sad to announce that after 25 years, we’ll be closing our doors on May 31. We have appreciated all of your business and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for letting us serve you. Thank you again and have a wonderful day.”

Located on a quiet stretch of Union Boulevard, Siam Lotus was a pioneer when it first opened in 1992, and maintained the same decor and the menu during its long run.
