In this week's Cheap Eats review, Joan Reminick calls Tate's in Nesconset "anything but mundane.'' Chef Jack Mutell serves New American and Italian fare and makes almost all dishes from scratch.

The Sheraton Long Island Hotel in Hauppauge is the site of the Fountain Grille, which critic Peter M. Gianotti says "sticks to the basics." He calls the restaurant a "pleasant surprise'' whether you're checking into the hotel or not.
