The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

Is it a lounge or a burger joint? The month-old Lounge Burger in Wantagh, already a popular spot, manages to be both — with style.

Maybe a little too much style. On a recent visit, the decibel level of the music on the sound system was deafening, bouncing off myriad hard surfaces.

Yet I’d suffer the din gladly for another “satin” burger, which was grilled precisely as ordered, oozing rich juices and topped with sauteed mushrooms, caramelized onions and Cheddar. Accompanying crisp hand-cut fries were judiciously salted, creamy-sweet within, ridiculously addictive.

I felt a bit let down, though, by a good-not-great “Bok-Bok” (chicken) burger topped with spinach, mozzarella and basil mayo. And with a grilled pizza appetizer wherein the mozzarella never melted.

The very new place shows much promise. Time will tell whether it will be lounging around for the long haul.

Lounge Burger is at 753 Wantagh Ave., Wantagh, 516 934-0900.
