After a week of drippy heat and that wild, windy storm, it's time for some calm weekend destinations.
You'll feel very mellow at The Greenport Tea Company, a North Fork charmer that provides a bit of England, with a wink. It's a welcoming little spot for a cup of Morocco mint or ginger-peach, along with scones, quiche, smoked salmon and assorted tea sandwiches. And enjoy strolling around downtown Greenport, which is very lively this season. Go to 119A Main St., 631-477-8744.
The Pine Island Grill is situated along a pretty curve of Long Island Sound in Bayville. Ideal alfresco for lunch here. Be sure to secure a table with a view. The modern dining room is part of the Crescent Beach Club complex. Better dishes are the simpler ones, from the shrimp cocktail to steak frites. Popular for brunch. You'll find the Grill at 333 Bayville Ave., 516-628-3000.
And when the sirens call, there's the fine Greek food at Alexandros, now in Mount Sinai. The homey, festive, neighborhood eatery is the cure for anyone who has had one too many heavy-duty moussakas. Sample the savory spreads and the grilled whole fish, a terrific New York strip steak and a finale of Greek yogurt with honey. 1050 Rte. 25A, 631-928-8600.
