Looks like the North Shore is going to get a rare blast of electronic dance come mid-February.
There have always been clubs and lounges both along Jericho Turnpike and in the busy villages north of NY-25 (Port Washington, Huntington, Bayville, Port Jefferson, Greenport) that offer DJ parties and dance floor-filled gatherings -- but when it comes to the major clubs, arenas and venues that specialize in appearances from celebrity DJs, most have always been found on the South Shore and South Fork (The Emporium in Patchogue, Aura in East Meadow, LOVE in Carle Place, the Hamptons, the former megaclub GLO in Westbury, among others).
However, one of the Island’s main spots for live music and events is The Paramount in Huntington, and while there have been a few dance-oriented functions held there since it opened in 2011, a major-name DJ has yet to spin from its stage -- but that will change come Sunday, Feb. 16, when Long Island’s own Theo is scheduled to play.
The one-time resident DJ of the now-defunct Neptune Beach Club in East Quogue, Theo (aka East Islip native Theo Pisani) is a respected remix producer and the talent behind a series of mix albums (titled “Summer Clubbing,” under the Nervous Records record label). He has been a regular on the NYC dance circuit, also working other East Coast cities and across the Atlantic in clubs on the Spanish island Ibiza, known for its dance-dominated nightlife scene.
It will be the winter edition of his ongoing “Classics” party series, at which Theo spins a great deal of beloved, apex house music tracks -- and according to the advertisements released concerning this bash, the evening will feature a 1960s Las Vegas-style theme in a show equipped with showgirls, various performers and other sorts of entertainment (see a preview video HERE).
