Whether one finds inspiration in the thrill of a quest, the chance to help support a local cause or just the prospect of possibly winning free drinks, some athletic local ladies have put together a challenge that might be a grabber for all the aforementioned: an LI-wide scavenger hunt.

Put into motion by the Long Island Roller Rebels -- the area’s all-female roller derby league -- this expedition is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 26, and is open to both individuals (a $10 entry fee) and duos ($25). The start time is mostly up to those taking part -- as a Rebels representative explained -- but it was also pointed out that hunters who put in greater amounts of time are more likely to rack up point-valued finds. It closes at Village Pub in Lindenhurst (174 N. Wellwood Ave., 631-592-4260), where all searchers must be in-house by 9 p.m. for the final tally -- and also where the winner/winners will receive the top bounty of a $50 bar credit.

However, non-winning high-scorers may also earn prizes -- such as a gift basket from the Ooh La La fashion boutique company (, video games and a four-pack of tickets to the Roller Rebels match set for May 3, among other awards. In addition, many of the league’s players are slated to join in on the challenge -- and as the scavenger hunt after-party will also be taking place at Village Pub, several derby skaters are expected to be in attendance -- so if you are looking for a chance to rub shoulders with members of the All-Stars, Rock-A-Betty Bruisers, Wicked Wheelers, Ladies of Laceration and Rolling Thundercats (the five teams that make up the Long Island Roller Rebels league), this would be an optimum opportunity to do so.

All money raised by the hunt (and a portion of the bar proceeds) will go to benefit the financial needs of the Rebels -- assisting in covering bout production costs, venue rentals and team travel. To register and participate, send an email to; for more information visit either or
