In the race for most eccentric character to appear on Long Island for a book signing in 2011, the first 12 days of January may produce the top two candidates.

On Tuesday, Jan. 11, Nicole Polizzi, the orange-skinned hair pouf better known to Americans - and God bless her, the world -- as "Snooki" will sign copies of her new novel "A Shore Thing" at Book Revue in Huntington. Don't worry, all. It's fiction. Err, we mean "fiction."

The next night, U.S. Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir, flashy and flamboyant as any athlete you've seen, will grace the same floor as Miss Snooks.

Those are just a few of the area book signings and author appearances coming up. For a more complete list, see
