'Americana' and '516' are now 'Toast'

Although the sign above the door says “Toast & Tapas,” the name at this Syosset stop is still technically “Americana Kitchen & Bar,” or “516” .?.?. until Tuesday, anyway.

The venue still known as (but soon to be “formerly” known as) Americana Kitchen & Bar was previously known as 516, with that numerical ID remaining evident in the form of never-replaced, highway sign-shaped marquees that carried the original three digit moniker despite the name change. In fact, while the name was officially changed to Americana back in April 2012, on its Facebook page it still referred to itself as 516 — but, starting Tuesday, Dec. 11, all that gets wiped away as the business at 4 Berry Hill Rd. in Syosset is scheduled to officially open for the first time as Toast & Tapas (a sister store to Toast and Co. in Huntington) -- and all the signage has been updated to reflect its newfound “Toast” status, with the road signs finally stripped of their 516 faces.

However, the rest of this weekend (Dec. 8-9) is being used as a send-off to all the former identities, with a planned close on Dec. 10 to lead into the Tuesday soft opening/ rebirth.

The full plans on what will be happening at this spot are still in the works, but for Syosset — a “bar-starved” area with few nightlife opportunities, Toast & Tapas is set to supply the town some late-night fun. Thursdays at 7 p.m., there is to be live music from Marc Phillip, an acoustic, “one-man-band” musician — followed by shows from full bands on Fridays and Saturdays after 9:30 p.m. In addition, there will be a late-on-weekends menu of tapas (hence this Toast’s surname), desserts and a selection of microbrews on tap and specialty cocktails in place for those coming out to investigate this ever-changing venue’s party scene.
