The first concert I went to was a Fiona Apple show, a fact that, coincidentally, has nothing to do with this blog post. But the SECOND concert I went to was an Ani DiFranco show. I was in high school, living in the suburbs of Chicago and into super-angsty female singer-songwriters, probably because I was in that super-angsty teenage phase myself.

So after spending a night with DiFranco belting out "32 Flavors" and "Not a Pretty Girl" and "Untouchable Face" in a packed house, lyrics I remember today, my friend and I got picked up by my dad. At the time, it was humiliating. The first thing he said, rather loudly with the car windows rolled down, was that he'd never seen so many tattooed, braless women in his life. I probaby ducked pretty low in the passenger seat about that time.

Where I'm going with this rambling memory is that Ani DiFranco, my teenage fave, is playing Nov. 18 at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center. Although I still enjoy her music, I haven't listened to her much in the past half-decade, but she's still out there touring, doing her thing, most likely with a new wave of angsty teenagers following her every word. Seeing this listing on our event calendar just brought it all back.

Want to go? See our event listing or buy tickets here. And if you do go, let me know how the show is. I'd love to hear.
