In the 1977 film “Saturday Night Fever,” young John Travolta is adamant about how flawless his hair is to look in order to properly arrive at a discothèque in Brooklyn -- a cinematic reference to a signature real-life nightlife precursory undertaking during those days. And although house, hip-hop and EDM have since replaced the boogie fever of the 1970s on today's club circuit, a similar circumstance still occurs at thousands of homes across Long Island nightly. As many of the guys and ladies that regularly head out to clubs and fun spots will readily admit, one’s hair must be “perfect” before ever crossing the threshold of an evening’s destination.
For all those among us who treasure the impeccability of a great hairdo, Monsoon Asian Kitchen & Lounge in Babylon (48 Deer Park Ave., 631-587-4400) is hosting an upcoming party where stylish manes will join forces with dance beats and late-night dining.
On Thursday, Jan. 31, the “Beauty. Buzz. Love.” bash is set to take place -- with the main event a hair and fashion show thrown by The Beehive Salon of Islip (455 Main Street, 631-650-6767) starting at 9:30 p.m.
Aside from the evening’s debonair hair demo program, there will be a DJ and raffles, as well as a special 3-course late-night dining special for $21.95 (after 10 p.m.).
Age of admission is 21 and over; all attending are asked to make a $25 voluntary donation to the American Red Cross (Long Island Chapter) – those who do will receive a complimentary cocktail, a Monsoon /Beehive gift bag and a chance to win a “Night out on the Town” prize (for two people) consisting of a hair and makeup application at the Beehive, to be followed by dinner and drinks at Monsoon (at a later date).
