The rave was once a pretty big deal on the Island, and during the early to mid-'90s, those in the know could point you to the warehouses and hidden locations that held the underground events.

And although raves have seen a strong resurgence in New York City, aside from a few occasional gatherings, the parties haven't returned in the same way in Nassau and Suffolk.

But if you'd like a taste of that type of shindig, Silk Ultralounge in Hauppauge is throwing a "Blackout Party" on Thursday, April 14 -- a bash that will borrow from the classic rave style. The room will be kept especially dim, and at midnight everyone will receive free glow-in-the-dark items -- necklaces, bracelets, glow sticks and other fun stuff -- giving partygoers a chance to light up their bodies and become a part of the ambience.

Doors open at 9:30 p.m. for an 18-and-over crowd. Ladies over 21 can get free Absolut vodka drinks until 1 a.m. (limit three drinks per person). Admission is $10 if you're under 21 and free for the 21+ crowd until 1 a.m. if you're on the RSVP guest list.
