The world of home entertainment may be dominated by the latest arrivals for PlayStation, Xbox and other video platforms -- but for some, the old-fashioned board game still does the trick.

From classic challenges like Monopoly, Sorry and Scrabble, to more modern tests like Pictionary and Trivial Pursuit, can more than satisfy board gamers to pass on a bloody battle of Call of Duty or Assassin’s Creed and instead settle down with scratch pads, dice and whatever equipment is necessary to accomplish a session of unplugged competition.

However, for some the playing of board games requires fuel. And for those whose play is enhanced by eats, great snacks and beverages can make all the difference in keeping players’ focus off their tummies and on a contest. One way to ensure that the need for munchies and drinks doesn’t interrupt is to head to a spot that can readily supply those treats. And while most food-serving venues aren’t very open to its diners settling in for a rousing round of Chutes and Ladders, Sip This is inviting all to come down on Feb. 10, bring their friends and play whatever board game they choose.

Starting at 7 p.m., guests can either use some of the house options (including Taboo, Apples To Apples, Last Word, Balderdash and Scattergories), or bring their own. As for edibles, the Valley Stream coffeehouse will have all its usual teas, coffees, milkshakes, espressos, smoothies and sweet snacks available for purchase.
