Although 2012 has just barely arrived, it looks as if Glo in Westbury will once again be the top place to find celebrity selectors on the Island as come Friday, Jan. 6, DJ Oscar G will arrive to mix for the first “Dance Music Friday” event of the year.
Although Oscar’s hometown is Miami, he has been a frequent player on the NYC scene, especially at Manhattan’s Pacha (618 W. 46th St., pachanyc.com) – which is considered by most to be the “main event” space for the international “superstar” DJs in the tri-state area. However, even those not as familiar with his solo work tend to be somewhat aware of his efforts with production teams such as Murk and Funky Green Dogs (and frequent collaborator Ralph Falcon) – responsible for creating long-lived classic tracks such as “Dark Beat” in 2003, and even reaching the pop charts in 1996 with “Fired Up.”
Oscar G remains a popular DJ around the globe, with past gigs as far from Miami and New York as Europe and Asia – so expect a large attendance at GLO come Friday night. Ticket prices and door times are yet to be announced, but be sure to dress to impress -- and although DJs often visit cities for only one night, it is interesting to note that G’s aforementioned partner-in-production Ralph Falcon has a gig of his own on Jan. 10 at Manhattan’s Cielo nightclub (18 Little West 12th St., cieloclub.com)…does this mean a surprise appearance? It’s purely speculation, but certainly worthy of postulation.
