If you're still searching for a trendy Halloween 2013 costume, but just not finding anything plugged into pop culture enough to your liking, perhaps you should look to such current icons as Walter White, Jax Teller and Rick Grimes for inspiration.
Not sure who those gentlemen are? Then you're probably not a dedicated basic cable enthusiast, for they aren't actual people but instead the main characters on very popular TV programs. White, played by actor Bryan Cranston, is the lead of the AMC network show “Breaking Bad;” Teller, of FX network’s “Sons of Anarchy” is played by actor Charlie Hunnam; Grimes, played by actor Andrew Lincoln, is the hero of AMC’s “The Walking Dead.“ If you Google these shows and add the word Halloween to the search, you will see that this year all three are hot choices for clever costumes.
But aside from serving as a statement of being culturally conscious, wearing the likeness of such notables may pay off in other ways as almost every bar and club on the Island will be hosting holiday costume contests that award those deemed best dressed with prizes. After Halloween, anyone dressed in the spirit of those hit cable shows can also take advantage of a special party at The Leaky Lifeboat in Seaford.
On Friday, Nov. 1, the Leaky is throwing a 9 p.m. costume party that asks all comers to dress as characters from either “Breaking,” “Sons” or “Dead.”
It’s not that the ‘Leaky isn't doing a party for Halloween, it is. The bar, known for its lack of attitude and hip point-of-view, will host a gathering at 9 p.m. Oct. 31 that will feature a costume contest and drink specials (for no cover charge), much like other pubs and clubs will be doing around Long Island.
But unlike their competitors, the Leaky Lifeboat will carry over the masquerade idea into the next day (again, for no door fee) -- and for this happening, all are asked to arrive as characters from one of the cable shows -- not to win a prize, but simply because the ‘Lifeboat is known to do things for no particular reason whatsoever (save for fun).
