In the creation of dance music, DJs and producers are the main forces behind the beat, which is what gets one and all on the dance floor. But when it comes to the part where we sing along, it’s almost always about the voice.
While there are many successful dance tracks that are virtually free from lyrical accompaniment, the biggest hits are often those that feature the efforts of a singer – many of whom are female. And, for fans of club hits that are powered by feminine vocals, The Emporium in Patchogue has an upcoming event that will put some of the more popular ladies of the genre on display to deliver their signature tunes live on stage.
On March 28, a number of songstresses will be on-hand as part of the “Electronic Divas” event, with the lead lady none other than Robin S., whose 1993 hit “Show Me Love” traveled beyond the club scene to become a Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 singles music chart the same year. Bronx-born artists Reina ("Find Another Woman,” "If I Close My Eyes") and Veronica (“Let Me Go... Release Me,” “Someone To Hold”) are on the bill as well -- two performers who have scored on the Billboard dance charts while also becoming long-running favorites of the Long Island club community.
Also appearing are Shawnee Taylor (best-known for her work with DJ Erick Morillo) and Seri (from the DJ Markus Schulz track “Love Rain Down”); tickets are available in advance for $10.53 at ticketfly.com. Presented by “Party” 105.3 WPTY-FM, the event starts at 9 p.m. for a 21-and-over crowd; for VIP table reservations call 631-275-6200 (dress to impress).
