Finding a bar that does something special for football is often as easy as, well, finding a bar. Most offer deals of some sort on drinks and food during National Football League competitions, but at Junior’s Spycoast in Port Jefferson, the price of drinks during Thursday night games rests in the palms of the bartender’s hands.
From 8 p.m.-12 a.m., the barkeep will flip a 50-cent piece, heads or tails – and if the right side is called, all in the bar enjoy a round of half-priced drinks, or perhaps 20 wings for $10 – the contests will be decided by the staff. However, one doesn’t need to wait out the coin toss, as the bar also features $12 buckets of Rolling Rock brand beer – not to mention a menu offers bites like the “Spycoast Burger” (served with lettuce, tomato and onion on a brioche roll), a sliced skirt steak sandwich and fish-and-chips.
For more entertainment, there are a number of flat screen TVs, and while the décor is currently limited to the wood floors and classic mantle, the crowd is generally upbeat and fun, doing things like singing along to '80s music loudly while laughing into the night.
