With both St. Patrick’s Day and Cinco de Mayo falling on Saturdays in 2012, Long Island bars and clubs have had a lesser challenge in drawing a crowd for the festive holidays this year. In fact, as frequently done back on March 17, lots of taverns and lounges are keeping things simple, with most spots basing their Cinco de Mayo gatherings around drink specials and not much more…so what’s to do that’s new?

A good start is to consider some of the more recently opened pubs and party places; perhaps not yet sampled by your set and circle. Here are some establishments that are throwing their very first Cinco de Mayo fiestas:

K. Pacho Cocina and Tequila: 1270 Union Tpke. New Hyde Park 516-358-2222

Since the menu at this restaurant and lounge is an upscale, contemporary take on Mexican food, it’s a perfect selection for a ‘Cinco' bash. Starting at 1 p.m., a DJ will be spinning dance-worthy pop music while the bar spins hourly drink specials.

Middle Country Beer Garden: 1702 Middle Country Rd. Centereach 631-696-1111,

Scheduled drink specials include $2 margaritas, $2 shots Jose Cuervo tequila and $2 Coronas from 8 p.m.-12 a.m., plus DJs playing club beats all night – not to mention the dozens of craft beers to choose from (check the chalkboard menus for choices).

Mary MacNamara's Pub: 44 Stauderman Ave., Lynbrook 516-837-7580,

Hidden from view with its tucked-away location across and under the LIRR train trestle, one might not be able to easily see this Irish-inspired pub from Sunrise Highway (or anywhere else), but those who make the effort will find a laid-back atmosphere, friendly staff and drink specials starting at 7 p.m. Watch for $4 Corona and Corona Lights, $5 margaritas and $3 tequila shots.

D19 Sports Lounge & Eatery: 519 Hawkins Ave. Lake Ronkonkoma 631-981-1676,

Watch for $3 Coronas, margaritas and Patron shots throughout the day, with the EDM “Life” party coincidentally returning for its bi-weekly happening after 9 p.m. The beats of the night will include such subgenres as classic hip-hop, trance, techno and tribal.
