The powerful, tragic events that have beset the Tutaj family of Seaford have become known to the entire Long Island community, and continue to weigh heavily on hearts and minds.
Robert Tutaj, 56, was already battling stage four cancer when he and his family lost their house to flooding during superstorm Sandy. But matters took another tragic turn last February when Robert’s son Joseph, 15, unexpectedly became ill during a school field trip to Los Angeles and died, with his cause of death still undetermined pending further testing.
As one would imagine, the family is devastated, and is currently living in temporary housing. Understandably, the Tutajs have a great deal of expenses to cover, and to help Robert and his wife Eileen, 47, a fundraiser is being held at Mulcahy’s Pub and Concert Hall in Wantagh on April 24.
The four-hour evening affair will include a hot buffet and open bar, as well as raffles and auctions, with live music from bands Barry Jive and the London Gentlemen, Steel Horse Band and Fivestone. Tickets are $50 for adults (with a discounted price for children and teens), and are available in advance or at the door.
Everything starts at 6:30 p.m. For purchase and further details, call 516-679-7964 or 516-221-5704.
