When it comes to sports and bars, usually the action takes place on the flat screen TVs, save any dart or pool competitions. Then again, occasionally a pub will field a softball team, or maybe even a soccer team – but when it comes to a game like kickball, the thought is usually more “schoolyard” than “tavern.”
However, the creative minds at Declan Quinn’s in Bay Shore have brought the sport to their world with an annual kickball competition.
Just add this to their list of interesting events (past gatherings include a “Beatle-mania” night and a wig-wearing karaoke bash), and it all starts around 11 a.m. at Declan’s. Either pay admission in advance for $30, or come the day-of and join for $40. Once everyone is organized, the players will set up at a nearby field and play the famed red-jellyball foot sport – either in teams that signed up together or on squads devised on-site. The teams will then play a round-robin tournament, with the eventual winners deemed the “Kickball Kings.”
It doesn’t end there. Once the battle has been finished, all those who have played (and paid the fee) can partake in two hours of tap beer, hot dogs and hamburgers – all covered by that entry charge.
