Although the sounds are serious, often emotionally-driven and sometimes just plain angry, there is – as there always has been on the Island – a crowd who likes to dance to heavy metal, hard rock and industrial electronic music. During the last decade, venues that cater to this scene have grown increasingly rare – but while most bars and clubs seem to pass on such action, Broadway Bar in Amityville continues to pledge its support with a steady amount of parties, one of which will take place on Friday, June 1, starting at 10 p.m.
Put together by the Indenial event production group, the evening will be led by the company’s own DJ Dreamtrancer, with scene regular Shellshock also on the bill. The night will also feature live music from bands Failure 2 Comply and Roughhausen, the latter of which includes musician Jeff Stoddard (who once worked with seminal industrial act Front Line Assembly).
Cover is $5 before midnight, $8 after, and there will be drink specials. Intended guests unsure of what to wear could start with lots of black, but this party is aiming for a gothic theme -- and anyone who dresses as such fantasy types as elves, knights, wizards or in Victorian steampunk fashion will receive discounted admission plus a ticket for a free glass of mead (honey wine; and it will also be available to buy for $3 a glass).
