Every year, backyard tomato growers from all over Long Island descend upon Newsday headquarters here in sunny Melville for an evening of friendly competition.

Are you in? There are just 2 weeks to go until this year's Challenge. No need to register or sign up -- just show up at the home office, 235 Pinelawn Road, at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 27 and bring your biggest homegrown tomato. I'll do the rest.
