Being in college, I've found it is extremely easy to gain a few pounds from midnight snacking and excessive junk food. It is not so easy to find a way to lose those pounds without being bored to tears. A good way to work those muscles and enjoy what you're doing at the same time is to go kayaking.
I haven't gone kayaking since a very young age, but some of the trips that Empire Kayaks (516-889-8300) has to offer seem too good to pass up. They have a trip for every type of personality that will allow you to work out without the monotony of a treadmill or elliptical machines.
Kayaking trips and tours start at about $35 per person. To a student (and an intern), this seems pricey at first. But, then again, there's no gym membership involved.
