Kayak trips for every type of personality

Being in college, I've found it is extremely easy to gain a few pounds from midnight snacking and excessive junk food. It is not so easy to find a way to lose those pounds without being bored to tears. A good way to work those muscles and enjoy what you're doing at the same time is to go kayaking.

I haven't gone kayaking since a very young age, but some of the trips that Empire Kayaks (516-889-8300) has to offer seem too good to pass up. They have a trip for every type of personality that will allow you to work out without the monotony of a treadmill or elliptical machines.

A fireworks paddle, celestial navigation tour and outings that combine kayaking and green-themed food all sound like fun ways to spend the afternoon or evening.

Kayaking trips and tours start at about $35 per person. To a student (and an intern), this seems pricey at first. But, then again, there's no gym membership involved.

Check out the latest ExploreTV video, which shows a dinner paddle from Island Park to Jordan Lobster Farms and back. Although feasting on lobster midworkout might not be the quickest way to lose weight, it seems like a lot of fun. Additional dinner paddles take place June 23, July 14, July 28, Aug. 11 and Aug. 25.
